This morning at Wood Green Crown Court in North London, Judge J. Dodd QC freed Extinction Rebellion founder Roger Hallam, and retired GP Dr Diana Warner, who have both spent a month in prison on remand.

after four weeks in prison under what were described as very difficult conditions (including days of solitary confinement, lack of exercise, mice, cockroaches, and no vegan food other than cold water pot noodles) the two were released. New bail and curfew conditions were imposed on all – the staggered curfew was replaced by a simple overnight curfew, with a strong warning that any breach will likely mean a return to prison.

Additionally, Hallam was ordered to wear an electronic tag.

The next case management meeting will be at the end of November, but there is no likelihood of a trial until well into next year.

If you thought pre-crime and thought crime were something from dystopian sci-fi, bear in mind that these five passionate climate activists are on stringent bail conditions not to talk to each other, on the basis of a recording of a meeting allegedly planning non-violent actions designed to bring attention to the seriousness and lack of government action over the climate crisis

Although they are under threat of further imprisonment that they mustn’t communicate with each other or plan any activism, their actual trial has no date and will certainly not take place for many months and possibly a year or more.

At a previous trial, in defiance of the judge’s directions, the jury sided with Hallam and delivered a ‘perverse judgement’ acquitting him of the criminal damage he’d caused at King’s College London. He persuaded them that his actions, as part of a successful campaign to force the college to divest from fossil-fuels, were necessary and proportionate, given the climate and ecological emergency.

I have checked all the news reports and there appears to be some confusion about what happened when Roger Hallam got arrested.

The five defendants threw paint over the offices of Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Christian Aid, and Amnesty International, and then they gave themselves up to the police who charged them with burglary and criminal damage and released them on bail.

About a week later they damaged the offices of the Green Party, the Tories, Labour, Lib Dems etc, and it appears that is why they were arrested again, but this time it was for breaking their bail conditions from the previous charges.

It looks as if there was an additional charge of conspiracy to commit criminal damage as a result of the attacks on the environmental NGOs, charities, and political parties.

Legally a conspiracy is when two or more people agree to commit a crime together.

Yesterday, Blyth, Ferhat and Steven were granted bail, under stringent conditions.
Blyth and Ferhat are out of prison and safe. We very much hope that Steven is released, at the latest, next Tuesday.

We still waiting for Diane's lawyers to tell us what's next; at the moment she is in prison. We hope that the court will grant her bail too.

Roger's appeal for bail was turned down, the bail conditions so harsh the judge couldn't make a decision without Roger being present. He is on remand (in Pentonville Prison) until the next bail hearing on the 22 nd September.

The court hearing for all defendants is provisionally set for late February, 2021.

Quarantine conditions in prison are brutal. It means isolation for two weeks. In a cell, on their own. These rules apply to all prisoners, including those waiting for trial, and those -as it's the case with Diane and Roger- on remand.

We can't really be sure if Diane, Roger and Steven still are on hunger strike inside jail. We know, Ferhat will carry on with his, in solidarity with those inside.
We can't say much more about any other stuff, as it's quite unclear what effect posting details could have on the defendants' case.

We hope we will be able to say more, once we know more.

We also would like to thank you for your messages, and actions of solidarity. Frankly, we are overwhelmed by the love and support you are giving us.

That Roger Hallam is in prison, isolated and with little chances of getting out, is telling. The establishment's media is keeping it as quiet as they possibly can. We know why, you know why.

The days, weeks, and months ahead might be the last chance we have to stop the Fuckery, the ultimate fuckery, from ending it all, forever.

The only solution is to bring down the government and put Citizen's Assemblies in its place. Whatever it takes.

Remember: this is not extinction, this is annihilation.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has updated the timeline on which he sees batteries enabling electric aircraft coming to maket. He now sees it happening in "3 to 4 years."
Several years ago, Musk, the CEO of both Tesla and SpaceX, said that he had a design for electric vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft – though he never elaborated on plans to bring the aircraft to production.
In order for his design to work, Musk said that the energy density of batteries needs to improve.
At the time, he mentioned a threshold of around 400 Wh/kg while Tesla’s batteries were achieving around 260 Wh/kg.
Now a year later, Tesla’s CEO is slightly accelerating the timeframe to “probably 3 to 4 years” away (via Twitter):
“400 Wh/kg *with* high cycle life, produced in volume (not just a lab) is not far. Probably 3 to 4 years.”

Agroforestry is essentially a forest-mimicking agriculture that involves growing trees, shrubs and vegetables in tight assemblages. It is an ancient technology created by indigenous peoples and popularized in recent decades by newer landowners. Although it’s difficult to pin down how much of the world’s agricultural land contains tree cover, figures range from 100 million hectares to as much as 1 billion hectares, which lock up an estimated .75 gigatons of carbon per year. By comparison, there were 32.5 gigatons of global carbon emissions in 2017.

In terms of cost, agroforestry is likely much cheaper than Carbon Engineering’s invention, not to mention that it will likely take much more carbon-emitting energy to operate their machines on the global scale that they envision. Project Drawdown, a carbon solution tracking initiative, estimates a cost of $26.8 billion to implement agroforestry on an additional 19 million hectares globally — sequestering 9.3 billion gigatons of carbon and providing an estimated profit of $710 billion for farmers and investors by 2050. Institutions with “climate-smart” agriculture support programs like the World Bank and the UN Food and Agricultural Organization could supply some of the needed funding and channel it through the training and extension programs of nonprofits like the World Agroforestry Centre. Private investors seeking carbon credits can likely provide significant capital as well.
