TADEAS: ten zaver tomu dodava thrill

A report from Spanish farmers’ association COAG stated that some cereals need to be “written off” across four entire regions this year; one meteorologist told El País to “say goodbye to almost the entire olive harvest.”

The Sau reservoir north of Barcelona has dropped so low that authorities decided to remove fish to avoid them dying off and contaminating the region’s water supply. Across Catalonia, reservoirs stand at only 27 percent — in April. Next week, Spain faces an early heat wave.

According to Ecological Transition Minister Teresa Ribera, water availability in Spain, much like in France, could drop up to 40 percent by 2050

    ...

France, where no rain fell for more than 30 consecutive days in January and February, experienced its driest winter in 60 years.

Italy’s CIMA research foundation found a 64 percent reduction in snowfall by mid-April. The River Po runs as low as it did last summer; Lake Garda is already at less than half its average level.

Researchers create salts for cheap and efficient CO2 capture; mimicking methane hydrate - Green Car Congress
    https://www.greencarcongress.com/2023/05/20230508-kaustsalt.html

Previous carbon capture methods included chemisorption, where chemical bonds form between CO2 molecules and the surface. This process worked well; however, the chemical bonds require energy to break them down, which drives up the cost of the CO2 capture operation. The salt-based, clathrate structure utilizes low energy, physisorption processes while capturing CO2 without water or nitrogen interference, opening a promising venue for future carbon capture and storage technologies through rapid CO2 solidification.

'We Were Gobsmacked': Giant Study Reveals Why Moss Is Vital For The Planet : ScienceAlert
    https://www.sciencealert.com/we-were-gobsmacked-giant-study-reveals-why-moss-is-vital-for-the-planet

The researchers compared soils with and without moss in each of their studied areas and found greater movement of nutrients in mossy soils, increasing the cycling of everything from nitrogen and phosphorus to organic matter. Moss also acts as a storage pool for nutrients, including carbon, currently keeping about 6.43 billion metric tons of this vital but currently problematic element out of our oversaturated atmosphere.

    ...

"You've got all the global emissions from land use change, such as grazing, clearing vegetation and activities associated with agriculture," explains Eldridge.

"We think mosses are sucking up six times more carbon dioxide, so it's not one to one, it's six times better."
