April Heat Waves from Gaza to the Philippines Were Made Worse by Climate Change | Scientific American
    https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/april-heat-waves-from-gaza-to-the-philippines-were-made-worse-by-climate/

Extreme heat has left hundreds of millions of people sweltering in record-breaking temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit) over the past few weeks across a broad swath of Asia. From the Palestinian territories in the west to India, Thailand and the Philippines to the east, scorching conditions have caused at least dozens of deaths, ruined crops and forced thousands of school closures. Relentless heat waves have worsened the already precarious conditions for those living in refugee camps and in makeshift housing in dense urban areas. And the 1.2 degrees C of warming the world has already experienced has significantly cranked up such events’ severity, a new analysis shows.

James Hansen, asi není třeba představovat, dnes zveřejnil, společně s 2 spoluautory, článek.
Comments on Global Warming Acceleration, Sulfur Emissions, Observations
In this article, climate scientists James Hansen, Pushker Kharecha, and Makiko Sato discuss the acceleration of global warming. They note that global temperature continues to rise, reaching 1.56°C above pre-industrial levels as of April 2024. The authors attribute this acceleration to the decline in human-made aerosols, particularly from the shipping industry, which previously had a cooling effect on the Earth.

The reduction in aerosols, combined with the strong warming trend at middle latitudes and the switch from La Nina to El Nino conditions in the Pacific Ocean, has led to a significant temperature jump in 2023-24. The authors emphasize the importance of accurately evaluating the impact of human-made aerosols on the climate, as it has implications for understanding climate sensitivity.

They call for further research and modeling to better understand the complex interactions between aerosols, clouds, and the Earth's climate system. The authors also stress the need for continued monitoring of the Earth's radiation balance to improve our understanding of the factors driving global warming acceleration.

poté co si on a další neoklasičtí ekonomové vymysleli "nobelovu cenu za ekonomii". Odůvodněním bylo, že většina zisku vzniká uvnitř budov, které lze klimatizovat

Climate change is affecting mental health literally everywhere (yaleclimateconnections.org)
“Farmers who can’t sleep, worrying they’ll lose everything amid increasing drought. Youth struggling with depression over a future that feels hopeless. Indigenous people grief-stricken over devastated ecosystems. For all these people and more, climate change is taking a clear toll on mental health…”

“For us, mental health isn’t just about individuals,” he said. “It’s about the collective well-being of our communities and the land itself. When nature suffers, so do we.”

On the same vein, efficiency of a multi generation system utilizing high temperature fuel cell and reversible energy, namely biomass and solar, was performed by Haghghi et al. [12]. The system was capable of simultaneously generating electricity, cooling, fresh water and H2 (via PEME). The overall energy efficiency of this system along with its H2 production rate were 77.58% and 0.7695 mol/s, respectively. An economic study of the system was also presented [13]. According to reports, the cost per unit exergy of H2 and total production was 41.74 GJ/$ and 11.28 GJ/$, respectively. Demir and Dincer [14] introduced and studied a hybrid system comprising of a solar-driven gas turbine, a storage unit, a multi-stage flash distillation, a PEME, and a thermoelectric generator with the aim of generating electricity, desalinated water and H2. The amount of desalinated water and H2 production of this system was calculated to be 1210 ton/day and 129.9 kg/day, respectively. Also, its energy and exergy efficiencies were 42.5% and 40.5%, respectively.

    The Energy of Russia
    Hydrocarbon Culture and Climate Change

This timely book analyses the status of hydrocarbon energy in Russia as both a saleable commodity and as a source of societal and political power. Through empirical studies in domestic and foreign policy contexts, Veli-Pekka Tynkkynen explores the development of a hydrocarbon culture in Russia and the impact this has on its politics, identity and approach to climate change and renewable energy.

Cogent and compelling, this book demonstrates how the Russian state leverages its oil and gas reserves in order to create and maintain power both domestically and internationally. Tynkkynen uses empirical studies of key topics such as the national gas programme Gazprom, the Arctic, climate discourse and anthropogenic climate change denial, and the Russia-Finland energy trade to critically examine the situation. The book concludes with a convincing argument for the potential of renewable energy to build a more resilient and sustainable future for Russia and how this might be achieved.

This will prove crucial reading for scholars and students of Russian and Eastern European studies and energy and environmental studies, as well as geographers, anthropologists and political scientists. Those working in governments, international organizations and corporations with an interest in Russian energy will also find its insights useful.
