TUHOKlimaticka zmena / Destroying the Future Is the Most Cost-Effective
"Given the sheer enormity of climate change, it’s okay to be depressed, to grieve. But please, don’t stay there too long. Join me in pure, unadulterated, righteous anger."

"I don’t want your hope. I don’t want you to be hopeful. ... I want you to act. Once you start to act, the hope is everywhere."

"Our best scientists tell us insistently that a calamity is unfolding, that the life-support systems of the Earth are being damaged in ways that threaten our survival. Yet in the face of these facts we carry on as usual."

Rostouci hladiny oceanu, zmena atmosferickeho proudeni, zmeny v distribuci srazek a sucha. Zmeny karbonoveho, fosforoveho a dusikoveho cyklu, okyselovani oceanu. Jake jsou bezpecnostni rizika a jake potencialni klady dramatickych zmen fungovani zemskeho systemu?
Ale take jak funguji masove dezinformacni kampane ropneho prumyslu a boj o verejne mineni na prahu noveho klimatickeho rezimu post-holocenu.

Catastrophic flooding in Nepal yet again.

A flash flood on the Budhi Gandaki early this morning swept away about 35 to 40 homes in Gorkha, and a local official says around 150 more were flooded downstream at Arughat. Six bridges are gone, 10 people are missing, and army helicopters have airlifted villagers out.

From the agricultural sector to high schools, France is at its wit's end.
    https://www.lemonde.fr/politique/article/2026/10/11/du-monde-agricole-aux-lycees-la-france-a-bout-de-nerfs_6791233_823448.html

Hit by drought, which has ravaged crops, but also by rising hydrocarbon prices that are driving up the cost of fuel and fertilizers, many farms are threatened.

The National Federation of Farmers' Unions (FNSEA), the main farmers' union, estimates losses at €10 billion. According to Bertrand Venteau, president of the Rural Coordination, "We're seeing losses of 30% across all models, and up to 70% for some ." The Ministry of Agriculture estimates that 30,000 farms are "in urgent need of substantial aid . " "The very survival of French agriculture is at stake ," warns Arnaud Rousseau, president of the FNSEA. On Thursday, October 8, the government announced zero-interest cash loans in addition to releasing more than 10 million barrels of oil onto the market. But these measures will not be enough to save those already facing bankruptcy.

"Pesticides for life? No thanks!": across France, protests against a "devastating" European deregulation project
    https://www.lemonde.fr/planete/article/2026/10/10/pesticides-a-vie-non-merci-partout-en-france-des-mobilisations-contre-un-projet-europeen-de-deregulation-devastateur_6790949_3244.html

This time, the protest is against Omnibus X, a draft legislative text put forward by the European Commission. Intended to strengthen "food safety" and the competitiveness of European agriculture, the text includes a series of unprecedented relaxations of pesticide regulations.

Omnibus X proposes in particular to thoroughly review their approval system by authorizing them indefinitely, with the exception of the most dangerous ones (classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction).

Today, manufacturers must undergo a risk reassessment of their molecules every ten to fifteen years to obtain an extension of their authorization. This process allows for consideration of advances in scientific knowledge regarding the health and/or environmental effects of substances. Although considered imperfect due to its slowness caused by the backlog of applications—more than 400 active substances are currently authorized in the European Union—this system has led to the withdrawal of authorization for around thirty pesticides in fifteen years.

    ...

This proposal has also sparked unprecedented outrage within the scientific and medical community. The International Society of Environmental Epidemiology, the European Society of Endocrinology, and many others have signed a dozen opinion pieces by learned societies. In mid-September, nearly 600 scientists and physicians from leading European research centers sent an open letter to the President of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, warning of a "dangerous step backward" and demanding a suspension of negotiations until an independent study of the proposal's health and environmental impacts has been conducted. Unfortunately, on September 30, the 27 member states reached a "compromise" on the Commission's proposed text.

The only "progress" is that the member states want to limit unlimited authorizations to pesticides classified as "low risk." Otherwise, they are endorsing Brussels' demands: extending authorization periods from ten to fifteen years for initial approval and from fifteen to twenty-five years for renewal; extending the grace period during which a substance can remain on the market beyond its ban to three years (compared to the current six months) to allow for the depletion of existing stocks; and extending the emergency exemptions for banned pesticides beyond the current 120 days.
