Učit se být hloupým ve společnosti, kde vládnou peníze

Naše společnost právě prochází poprvé otevřeně přiznaným imperiálním dobrodružstvím stárnoucího amerického kapitalismu. Vzhledem k tomu se vám možná bude zdát pokus profesorky anglistiky z naší vidlácké university[1] najít spojení mezi ubohostí amerického vzdělání a naivitě americké společnosti malinko triviální, ale vydržte. Má osobní zkušenost ve třídě směřuje k otázce, proč tento vzdělávací systém vede studenty k tak nesmírně hluboké ignoranci.

"Ne, zásadně nečtu," přiznává mladá slečna bez sebemenšího náznaku studu. Nemá ani nejmenší tušení, že vytvoří-li si člověk studující na univerzitě návykovou preferenci nečíst, je to jakoby se někdo na veřejnosti chlubil, že se rozhodl nedýchat. Ta slečna je v mé třídě, kde probíráme světovou literaturu. Očekává se od ní, že bude číst novely afrických, jihoamerických a asijských autorů (všimněte si, že nikoliv evropských. Evropská kultura pro ně neexistuje. Pozn. vydavatele.). Nezvolila si tenhle předmět dobrovolně. Je tady kvůli zápočtům na vybrané předměty, které potřebuje ke zdárnému ukončení studia. Mohla si vybrat mezi světovou literaturou a filosofii. Zvolila literaturu, protože je lehčí. Alespoň si to myslí.

Novela, se kterou má zmíněná slečna problém, je od Isabely Allendové (příbuzná Salvádora Allendeho) a jmenuje se Of Love and Shadow. Odehrává se v letech 1973-1989 v Chile, kdy Pinochetová junta instalovala režim ve stylu nacismu a uplatnila proti vlastním občanům krvavý teror. Nikdo ve třídě, včetně těch kteří mají světovou literaturu jako hlavní předmět, není schopen napsat cílevědomou a smysluplnou analýzu čehokoliv. Musím je to tedy učit. Nikdo ve třídě neví, kde je Chile, jsem tedy nucena namnožit pro své studenty základní informace o této zemi ze světového průvodce. Nikdo neví, co je socialismus a fašismus, takže je nutno strávit určitý čas vypisováním srozumitelných definic. Nikdo ve třídě netuší, co to je Platónová alegorie jeskyně, jenže bez toho není možné novelu pochopit. Musím tedy znovu odbočit a věnovat se vysvětlování pojmu včetně nákresu. Tohle vše jsou základní vědomosti, které studenti několik generací zpátky běžně mívali. A nikdo ve třídě nikdy neslyšel o 11. září 1973, kdy v Chile proběhl za pomoci CIA puč, který svrhl vyspělou chilskou demokracii a nastolil teror. Jsou v naprostém šoku, když jim předložím odtajněné dokumenty potvrzující tajnou dohodu mezi Pinochetovými generály a Washingtonem a podíl CIA na zavraždění legálně zvoleného prezidenta Salvádora Allendeho.

Zeměpis, historie, filosofie, politické vědy - to vše zcela chybí v jejich průpravě. Uvědomila jsem si, že to jsou oni - mí studenti, kteří jsou vlastně utlačování, jak to popsal Paulo Freire ve své The Pedagogy of the Oppressed, a že za svůj útisk sami platí. Takže trpělivě vysvětluji: Ne, naše vláda nebyla nakloněna chilské demokracii. Ano, naše vláda podporovala finančně nejen samotný převrat, ale i mučicí mašinérii, která následně vznikla. Ano, to samé platí pro celou Jižní Ameriku. Pak se jeden student zeptá: "Proč?" "Těžká odpověď," říkám. "CIA a korporace vládnou ve světě tvrdou rukou. Je to částečně umožněno tím, že lidé ve Spojených státech jsou ignorantští. A to, že jsou ignorantští, je zřejmě uměle vyvoláno oficiálním vzdělávacím systémem, posíleným tlakem médií a povzbuzovaným Hollywoodem. Čím více národ čte (brak), tím méně ví a tím snadněji bude naočkovaný. Lehčeji se pak dosáhne stádia celostátní hlouposti.Tato snaha (vychovat hlupáky) stojí tolik prostředků, že se stát bezedně zadlužuje."

A mezitím tato drahá národní omezenost usnadňuje vládě finančně podporovat ve světě různá krvavá komanda smrti, junty a teroristické režimy. Umožňuje pokračování války, kterou právě vedeme - nečisté, ilegální, nezdůvodnitelné, nelogické a nesmírně drahé války, která ukázala světu selhání našich výzvědných služeb a - mimochodem - také poodhalila plíživý rozpad našeho ekonomického systému. A také signalizuje impotenci amerického vzdělávacího systému vyprodukovat mozky schopné základního přežití v demokracii tím, že budou analyzovat fakta a klást otázky.

Dovolte, abych to řekla stručně: Myslím, že kvalitní vzdělání není v dnešní Americe možné. Čehokoliv se v análech znalostí dotknete, je nepřítelem tohoto systému komerce, zisku a pokračujícího šílenství. Jediné vzdělání, které oni mohou povolit, je takové, které buď udržuje status quo, jak se to děje v výběrových školách, nebo vychovává lidi k policii a k vynucování tohoto statusu quo, jako je tomu ve státní škole, kde učím. Musím podtrhnout, že má škola nepatří mezi exkluzivní univerzity. Studují na ní většinou pracující a lidé, kteří si potřebuji doplnit vzdělání. Po absolvování se naši studenti uplatní spíše na nižších a středních stupních řízení, například ve státní službě, ve vzdělávacím procesu a jako střední management. Je pro naše studenty typické, že nejoblíbenějšími předměty pro ně jsou komunikace, justice a sociální služby. Tedy v podstatě jak mystifikovat, trestat a ovládat masy.

Tenhle vzdělávací systém je obrovským mrháním zdrojů a potenciálů mladých lidí. Je nepředstavitelně nudný a zbytečný - nikoliv však pro moc a zájmy těch, kteří jsou s mocí spojeni. A jestliže ukrajinský student, který dorazil na toto pobřeží před třemi týdny, je schopen anglicky napsat práci vykazující nejhlubší myšlení ve třídě, pak by americký vzdělávací systém měl zodpovědět mladým některé otázky.

Ale suť a trosky, které zbyly z amerického vzdělávacího systému něčemu slouží a byly plánovány. Proto (že existuje, že je takový, jaký je) se naším sdělovacím prostředkům daří lhát. Proto může náš ministr zahraničních věcí beztrestně citovat ze studentské práce a sebevědomě to označit za informace pocházející z nejvyšších výzvědných kruhů. Proto mohla být Picassova Guernica v průběhu jeho absurdního projevu před OSN zakryta - aniž by někomu došel politický význam toho gesta, které zavání příklonem k fašismu.

Kulturní fašismus manifestuje sám sebe averzí k myšlení a kulturnímu zjemňování. "Když slyším slovo kultura, sahám po revolveru," řekl Goebels. Jednou z neslavných a mnoho naznačujících reforem, kterou provedla Pinochetova junta, byla reforma školství. Cílem bylo zamezit univerzitám, aby se staly živnou půdou kritiky a politické opozice. Přišel příkaz rozpustit katedry filosofie, sociálních a politických věd, umění a dalších podobných humanitních směrů, tedy míst, kde by mohla vzniknout politická diskuze. Univerzitám bylo nařízeno udělovat tituly pouze v obchodních oborech, managementu, počítačových vědách, technických oborech, medicíně a zubařství - tedy v podstatě fungovaly jako výcvikové kurzy pro přípravu povolání. Totéž se dnes děje v amerických školách, alespoň v těch, které poskytují hromadné vzdělání. Naši studenti mohou graduovat aniž by jenom zavadili o nějaký zahraniční jazyk, filosofii, základy jakékoliv vědy, hudby, umění, historie a politických věd či ekonomie. Naši studenti jsou připravování na život v systému volební demokracie, aniž by věděli cokoliv z politiky. Jedním z výsledků jsou pak stále prázdnější volební místnosti.

Básník Percy Bysshe Shelley jednou napsal, že v nenasytnosti, která je výsledkem industriální revoluce, se lidé nejprve vzdali svého myšlení, pak svých srdcí a schopnosti empatie. Jediné, co nakonec z našeho původního lidského vybavení zůstalo, bylo vnímání svých sobeckých požadavků po uspokojování potřeb. V tomto bodě lidé vstoupili do stádia tržních komodit a tržních spotřebitelů - stali se jen dalším (nevýznamným) předmětem v krajině komerce a obchodu. Bez myšlení a bez cítění jsou manipulování ke kupování čehokoliv, co otupuje jejich vystrašené smysly, hlučně se dožadující dalšího a dalšího kupování, ať je to cokoliv - oficiální lži, nemorální války, panenky Barbies (s jejich krásnými šaty a prázdnými tvářemi) a zruinované vzdělání.

Zatímco toto píšu, přišlo oznámení vlády: desetiprocentní snížení všem státním službám - včetně školství.

RIPPED OFF: New ATM Card Screws Poor People

IN OCTOBER, EVERYONE on welfare in King County received a shiny new debit card in the mail. Now, instead of using paper food stamps at the grocery store or cashing a welfare check at the bank, people can swipe their Quest cards at the checkout counter or use them at an ATM. The point of the cards is to reduce fraud (there's an entire black market established around the selling of paper food stamps), speed up the delivery of benefits (no more waiting for checks), and eliminate the stigma of paging through a book of stamps while a line of shoppers looks on.

But there are also some pretty serious drawbacks. The system actually costs welfare recipients money. Each time they use an ATM to draw from their accounts (the only way their money can be accessed), Citigroup, the financial giant running the program, takes a little off the top. In Washington, the typical mother-and-child household receives $440 a month in cash benefits, putting them 60 percent below the poverty line. Yet each time Mom uses an ATM, she pays 85 cents to the nation's largest bank, New York-based Citigroup. If she's using an ATM run by Key Bank, Bank of America, or U.S. Bank -- all of which accept the card -- she's also charged the banks' standard $1.50 transaction fee. "That's their laundry money," says Monica Peabody of the Welfare Rights Organizing Committee in Olympia. "These grants are so low already, and every penny is spent. It's outrageous."

Meanwhile, Citigroup, which last week announced third-quarter profits of nearly $100 million, stands to make a bundle. The bank's system is already in place in some Washington counties, as well as in 27 other states -- dispensing more than $640 million in benefits to 12 million people. The state pays Citigroup $60,000 for dispensing benefits in King County, and though the company wouldn't reveal how much it makes off ATM fees, a little math shows that it'll collect tens of thousands of dollars each month in this county alone.

The cards -- which came about because of a federal mandate to make all government payments electronic by 1999 -- also make it easy for the state to keep a detailed tally of purchasing habits. This data could conceivably be used to cut off benefits if it's determined the money isn't being spent correctly, or could be used in child welfare cases, when the mother's caretaking abilities are in question.

Renia Neuhauser, director of the card program for the state's Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), says the cards provide a useful tracking system. If a client stops using their card, she says, Citigroup notifies DSHS. "What if the client is ill and we haven't seen them for a while?" asks Neuhauser. "What if they don't need them anymore? Or don't know how to use them? We need to know what's going on with our clients. This is an alert system."

But with the ability to track comes the ability to spy. "When you use a credit card, a debit card, or a retailer card at the store, there are no laws that prohibit the store or the card company from selling that information," says Jerry Sheehan, a lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union of Washington. "With regard to persons on public assistance, now you're allowing the government to receive a record of your spending." Because there are no waivers for people who'd rather not use the Quest card, "the government is not allowing you to have anonymity in your purchases."

Citigroup regional director Tom McLaughlin says the bank only releases vender serial numbers and transaction dates to DSHS. But he admits that a caseworker could pretty easily track down retailer names and locations. He says even more information will be available to DSHS as stores like K-Mart, Costco, and Wal-Mart start accepting the cards. "Those retailers who want the clients' business will tend to take these cards," he says.

In the end, detailed records of shopping habits could become fodder for politicians looking to reduce government subsidies. "Legislatures are always disrespectful of the privacy rights of those they think ought to be grateful for assistance," says Sheehan.

Chris Hoofnagle writes "The Dept. of Housing and Urban Development is proposing a massive system of tracking for homeless people and others who are served by shelters and care centers. The system will track people by their SSN, and will collect health (HIV, pregnancy) and mental information. Secret Service and national security agents can gain access to the database by just asking for it! EPIC has released a fact sheet on HMIS, and the public can comment on the guidelines until September 22, 2003, but no electronic comments are being accepted."

9/11 and US-Led Neo-Fascism

The "War on Terrorism" and legislation such as the "PATRIOT" Act are the latest phase of a plan for US-led global neo-fascism which has been in the works for decades at least. Powerful elements in the US government wanted to take over Afghanistan and the surrounding area, with its oil, natural gas, minerals, and opium, to further worldwide US military and economic dominance. The terrorist attacks on 9/11/01 are reminiscent of previous "arranged" attacks including the Boston Massacre, Pearl Harbor, and the Gulf of Tonkin "incident."

Of course, this is not the "classic" fascism of the 1930s; history never repeats itself exactly. There is no need for the Brown Shirts and the Black Shirts of the ‘30s, since there is no longer any strong Communist movement to defeat. Overt racism is out these days; "Islamic fundamentalists" (patiently built up by the US and allies) fill the bill now. But the essential elements (as identified by Prof. Bertram Gross1) of big business-big government cooperation, authoritarianism, and militarism are still there.

Powerful elements in US business, political, and military circles have wanted a global fascist order for a long time. (For example, in the mid-1930s, vice-president of General Motors Graeme K. Howard wrote a book titled America and a New World Order.) IBM, ITT, Standard Oil of New Jersey, Ford, General Motors, The Chase Bank, the National City Bank of New York (now Citibank/Citigroup), and other US businesses and banks funded Hitler before and during World War II.2 (Prescott Bush, G. W. Bush’s grandfather, funneled money to the Nazis from New York.3) They also supplied trucks, oil, aircraft engines, communications equipment, transportation, and propaganda to the fascist powers.

Allen Dulles and John Foster Dulles, who later became head of the CIA and Secretary of State respectively, were heavily involved in this collaboration. Some of these fascists actually plotted a military coup against President Roosevelt, but it was discovered.

Hitler was planning to attack the US when he had developed bombers with enough range, and besides if Britain fell he would be able to take South America and Canada. Japan was also becoming a threat.4

Roosevelt decided it was necessary to get the US into the war, so he provoked the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. (People have argued this for decades, but recently declassified US documents leave no room for doubt.5 This is a common ploy of governments when they want to start unpopular wars; the Boston Massacre6 and the Gulf of Tonkin "incident"7 are other examples.)

The Tripartite Pact between Germany, Italy, and Japan ensured that when the US declared war on Japan, Germany and Italy would declare war on the US. After the war, the US fascists saw to it that most of the Nazi industrialists remained in place.8

The Office of Naval Intelligence recruited the Mafia to control the New York waterfront and help plan the invasion of Italy. The US military also installed Mafia chiefs as mayors of many towns and cities in Italy (they had set them up as an occupation force to release US troops for the European theater of war). Under Lucky Luciano, the Mafia rebuilt its heroin trade, expanding into Marseille.

The Mafia also kept the Socialist and Communist parties under control, a great aid to US foreign policy.9 In 1945 Roosevelt made a secret deal with King Ibn Saud of Saudi Arabia to guarantee his family’s throne in return for privileged access to oil.10

The Saudis also got filthy rich from oil sales, and put most of their money in US banks and businesses — an estimated $750 billion.11 Ibn Saud had supported Hitler; the CIA, which adopted hundreds of Nazi spies, scientists, and military officers, set up a fascist network in the Middle East to assure control of oil supplies and to counter Soviet influence. It also brought many Nazis to the US and to South America.

One of the Nazis the US spirited away to South America was Klaus Barbie. Known as "The Butcher of Lyons," he helped set up the infamous "School of the Americas," a training center for torture and repression, for the US army in the Panama Canal Zone.12 (The school later moved to Fort Benning, GA, and has changed its name to the "Western Hemispheric Institute for Security Co-operation.")

Starting in the 1950s, the CIA built up the heroin production in Burma (now Myanmar) to fund the Chinese Nationalist Army as a bulwark against Chinese Communist expansion. In the 1970s, it expanded the drug racket into Laos, largely at the expense of the US troops in Vietnam. The troops brought their habits and connections home with them, leading to a heroin epidemic in the US.13

The US has used the drug trade to finance its covert armies and destabilize and corrupt governments; as late as 1980 the Bolivian government hired Barbie to manage a band of mercenaries which protected its cocaine shipments.14 The Nicaraguan Contras were another example of a US client army supported by CIA-protected drug dealing. Due to the outcry over Gary Webb’s "Dark Alliance" series exposing this in the San Jose Mercury News, the CIA Inspector General investigated the allegations and produced a report admitting that it was protecting the drug dealers who were supporting the Contras.15

In 1979 Zbigniew Brzezinski, President Carter’s National Security Advisor and a founding member of the Trilateral Commission, convinced Carter to covertly arm the opposition to the socialist government in Afghanistan. Brzezinski’s plan (which worked very well) was to draw the Soviets into a military morass there and thus weaken it.16 Once again, the CIA built up a huge drug trade, and eventually Afghanistan became the source of about two-thirds of the world’s heroin.17

Osama bin Laden, son of an immensely wealthy Saudi family which is very close to the royal family, became a major recruiter for the CIA, rounding up footloose Arabs and sending them to the US for military training. The US then sent them to fight in Afghanistan.18

Bin Laden also financed and directed major construction projects for the CIA. The Saudi royal family (with CIA guidance) set up madrassas, or Islamic religious schools, which taught a particularly conservative brand of Islam called "Wahabbism" in Pakistan. (The Saudi royal family supports Wahabbism in return for the Wahabbis’ religious blessing.) The Taliban came from these schools.19 But observers have noted that the Taliban emerged able to operate tanks and other sophisticated military equipment, suggesting that the Koran was not their only subject of study.20 Dana Rohrabacher, a senior member of the House Committee on International Relations, says the US saw to it that the Taliban took over most of Afghanistan after the Soviets withdrew.21 The CIA and Saudi Arabia built up Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence Service and established a huge network of terrorist training camps and heroin laboratories there.22

The drug trade, and other criminal rackets like prostitution, not only bankroll the CIA’s covert armies, they feed huge amounts of money into US banks and stock markets — the central banks of Colombia, Peru,23 and Pakistan24 rely on drug money to repay their loans from US banks, and large US companies which trade their stock in certain exchanges are exempt from reports designed to detect money laundering.25 International crime, protected by governments and their intelligence agencies, accounts for an estimated 20% of world trade — a seamy side of globalization rarely mentioned in the press — and the US is in the lead.26

Zbigniew Brzezinski,27 Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Jeb Bush, and other US movers and shakers see the US as the rightful ruler of the world, with a "decisive arbitrating role" and "constabulary" (police) functions — without regard to the wishes of the UN or the people of the US.28

Control of Eurasia is key to control of the world, and the key to Eurasia is Central Asia (Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, etc.)29 — the oil30 and opium31 in the region are some of the greatest economic prizes on the planet. But global dominance is expensive, both in money and blood, and the hawks recognized (and stated publicly) that it would take an attack on the US comparable to Pearl Harbor to get the military forces and domestic political control they need.32 Given the thousands of terrorists they had trained and financed (most of whom didn’t know where the money had come from and were, ironically, seething with rage at the US), plans for such attacks are always in the works. In fact, many FBI agents had been trying to investigate al-Qaeda for years, but their superiors stopped them.33 They had known since 1995 that terrorists were planning to fly hijacked airplanes into US buildings.34

The Clinton Administration drew up detailed plans for an attack on Al-Qaeda (and Afghanistan), but they weren’t ready until the last month of Clinton’s term, so he passed them on to the Bush administration, which rewrote them for a bigger war (the final version reached Bush’s desk a few days before 9-11).35 Retired Clinton Administration diplomats told their Pakistani counterparts in July 2001 that the US was considering a "military option" and might attack Afghanistan in mid-October.36

Israeli, Russian, German, Jordanian, and Egyptian intelligence services warned the US of upcoming attacks before 9/11/01, and many individuals did as well.37 Even the Director of the CIA, George Tenet (who appears not to have been "in the loop"), warned Congress shortly before the 9-11 attacks that something like them would happen soon.38 Before 9-11, John Ashcroft,39 George Schulz, Donald Rumsfeld, and Dick Cheney quit flying on commercial airliners due to a "security alert,"40 San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown received warnings not to fly,41 and a group of high-ranking Pentagon officials canceled their travel plans without explanation.42

Although it has been standard operating procedure for years to intercept flights as soon as air traffic controllers lose contact with them,43 no intercepts happened on 9-11, and one fighter which was on a routine training mission near New York after the first airplane hit the World Trade Center was ordered back to its base.44

Sharon Says Al Qaeda Operating in Gaza, Lebanon

TEL AVIV - Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said on Thursday Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda network had established a presence in Palestinian-ruled areas of the Gaza Strip and in Lebanon.

A Palestinian official denied the charge and said Israel was looking for an excuse to invade Gaza, where it often launches raids to hunt militants fighting for independence. Lebanon's prime minister dismissed the allegations as "fraudulent."

Sharon also said he did not necessarily agree with a U.S.-backed call for a Palestinian state by 2005 and officials said he had approved plans to extend a security fence aimed at preventing Palestinian attacks within the Jewish state.

In Washington, the State Department declined to comment directly on Sharon's remarks and said the United States remained committed to President Bush's vision of Israeli and Palestinian states living side by side in peace.

A senior Palestinian security official claimed Saturday his services had uncovered an Israeli plot to create a mock Al-Qaeda cell in the Gaza Strip, while an Israeli official dismissed the charge as "absurd".

Gaza head of preventive security Rashid Abu Shbak told journalists at a press conference that Israeli agents, posing as operatives of Osama bin Laden's terrorist group, recruited Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

"Over the past nine months, we've been investigating eight cases in which Israeli intelligence posing as Al-Qaeda operatives recruited Palestinians in the Gaza Strip," said Abu Shbak, referring to a series of e-mails and phone call conversations.

He added that three Palestinians had been detained.

Abu Shbak's revelations came two days after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon charged Al-Qaeda militants were operating in the Gaza Strip and in Lebanon, raising fears of an intensification of Israeli military operations.

A spokesman for Israel's foreign ministry branded the Palestinian claim "ridiculous" and "some kind of propaganda campaign," adding that "the Palestinian territories have become a breeding ground for terrorism.

"There is no need for Israel to make up something like this because (the hardline Islamic movements) Hamas, Islamic Jihad and (Lebanon-based militant group) Hezbollah are all the same as Al-Qaeda," spokesman Gilad Millo said.

"If... Sharon has made these allegations, he must be basing it on some evidence," he also said.

Abu Shbak said three Palestinians used by Israeli intelligence had been arrested, while another 11 were released "because they came and informed us of this Israeli plot."

He poured cold water on the theory that Al-Qaeda was operating in the occupied territories.

"Al-Qaeda doesn't recruit so easily and openly," Abu Shbak said.

The security chief said his services had traced back to Israel cellphone calls and e-mails in which Palestinians were asked to join Al-Qaeda.

He said the calls to the Gaza Strip purportedly came from Germany and Lebanon. One e-mail was even signed bin Laden.

"We investigated the origin of those calls, which used roaming, and messages and found out they all came from Israel," he told journalists.

"The Shin Beth - Israeli internal intelligence - has the means to do whatever it wants."

He said the Palestinians recruited were then paired unbeknownst to them with Israeli collaborators in Gaza.

He said they received money and weapons "although most of these weapons did not even work".

The money was provided by "Palestinian collaborators with Israel" directly to the new recruits or "was transferred from bank accounts in Jerusalem or Israel," Shbak said.

"We are sure that Israel is behind this and that there are absolutely no groups such as Al-Qaeda operating here," the security chief said, adding however "we can't say there will never be Al-Qaeda here, but at least not for now."

But neither did Shbak contest the fact that as many as 11 Palestinians had welcomed the call from Israel to join Al-Qaeda.

"Those who accepted were mostly members of the military wing of Palestinian organizations," he said.

International cooperation minister Nabil Shaath, who also attended the press conference, accused Sharon of trying to piggyback on the US-led 'war against terrorism' to justify "more attacks on the Palestinian people and violence in the Gaza Strip".

Sharon's announcement marked the first time Israel officially claimed that Al-Qaeda, held responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, was operating in the Palestinian territories.

It was considered a surprise because the Gaza Strip is virtually sealed off by Israeli troops.

The hardline Israeli leader also charged other members of the terror group were cooperating with Lebanon's Shiite militia Hezbollah.

The Lebanese government and Hezbollah had also dismissed the accusations.

Three Israelis and 10 Kenyans were killed in a suicide attack on a hotel near the Kenyan port of Mombasa last Thursday, shortly after missiles narrowly missed an Israeli charter flight taking off from there with 261 passengers.

The attacks were purportedly claimed by Al-Qaeda on an Islamic website.

Well, America, congratulations! We've finally distinguished ourselves now as OFFICIAL SLAVES of the United States government. Yes, you heard me correctly. We are now working, for the first time ever in our history, over half the year to pay Uncle Sam the Tax Man.

Yup, it's now official. According to Americans for Tax Reform, a group that keeps an eye on such matters, Americans had to work until July 11th of this year to pay off their DEBT to the U.S. government. Texas Representative Ron Paul calls this "Cost of Government Day" where "the average American has worked enough in the calendar year to pay for government at the federal, state and local levels."

Can you see what's going on? Can you hear the tide of rolling socialism washing over us? Although I cover this topic much more extensively in my book, The New World Order Exposed, take a look at how much we are now required to work to pay off our various tax debts to the government (on all levels):

Is it starting to sink in yet?...

There are 365 days in every year, and Americans are now working 192 of them for NOTHING - to pay our slave-debt! That comes to 52.6% of our total wages. Now, for a long time the commonly agreed upon tax rate was 48%, which still meant that we kept more of our money than we gave away. But not any more. In fact, we’re now working 17 days longer for our "Cost of Government Day" than we did only three years ago. So, just like that, the government added 2 ½ more weeks of NON-PAID labor to our enslavement since the year 2000.

With all this infuriating information in mind, let me ask all of my fellow Americans a question: in the future, do you think we’ll be working even MORE days to pay off our enslavement debt, or less? If you don’t know the answer, let me remind you that our federal deficit will exceed $455 billion this year (in February 2003, President Bush said that this deficit would only be $304 billion) while we’re spending $1 billion dollars a week to rebuilt Iraq (not to mention our forays in Afghanistan, Africa, and God knows where else).

So, what happens when our government spends more money than it takes in? Answer: it borrows more money from the international bankers, which subsequently increases our national debt, and thus the total amount of yearly interest we must pay. To make up for this deficit, try to guess what our government is going to do. Decrease spending? Hardly! The Bush Administration (supposedly fiscal conservatives, but we know that’s a joke) is outspending the socialist Clinton Democrats in every area, including HUD, schooling, health care, and community development (but who would notice). (As an aside, doesn’t it seem funny that even though we keep funneling more and more money into these programs, none of them seem to get any better?) Anyway, here’s the bottom line: every time the government goes further into debt and borrows more from the international bankers, OUR TAXES GO UP! Don't believe me? In 1913, when the federal income tax bill was enacted, the government took only 1% of our wages. Now we’re being taxed, in whole, 52% of our wages! We’re working until July 11th to pay our tax-slave debt to the government. And if this trend continues, soon we'll be working into AUGUST. As I illustrate in The New World Order Exposed, there isn't much differentiating us from slaves on a plantation in pre-Civil War times. Can you hear what I’m saying? To close, I’ll only ask one more question – why are we surrendering such an exorbitant amount of our money via taxation without putting up any fight about it? When will it end? The answer is: not until we do something about it. Will we rebel at 55% of our wages being stolen … 60% … 65% … how about 70% … nah, why don’t we push it until 75% - that way the government gets 3/4s while we get to keep ¼. I'm reminded of an old saying that goes as such: Power never concedes power until it is demanded to do so. It's time to start DEMANDING, folks … it's time for a revolution!

Howard push for Pacific union

The Howard Government has proposed a radical plan for Pacific nations to adopt the Australian dollar, amalgamate key services and set up a regional unit to fight transnational crime and terrorism.

The proposals are contained in a confidential briefing to regional leaders circulated at the Pacific Islands Forum in Auckland, obtained by The Age. Prime Minister John Howard has confirmed the existence of the briefing paper but refused to discuss its contents.

Mr Howard last week played down a Senate report advocating a Pacific Union, akin to the European Union, and the regional adoption of the Australian dollar, saying that such a proposal was "on the never-never".

However, the Government's paper endorses a range of options for regional consolidation, urging other Pacific nations to consider "the merits of a regional approach to monetary and exchange rate policy".

It says the approach could involve the creation of a regional central bank and single currency, a currency board and "dollarisation" of the region.

The Senate report had called for a single currency and common labour market in the Pacific as a way to prop up small, failing states.

The new briefing paper also calls for pooling of regional resources in justice and security-related areas. It advocates "a regional unit to respond to complex transnational crime and terrorism issues".

A regional financial intelligence unit to oversee and investigate financial transactions and police money laundering is proposed.

New legal and administrative structures to allow rapid regional responses to law and order breakdowns - such as the Australian-led intervention in the Solomons - are also supported by the paper.

The paper calls for the strengthening of the Pacific Islands Forum, the main regional institution, and amalgamation of key services, including the possible establishment of a regional airline.

Pacific governments would find it increasingly difficult to maintain "all the sophisticated arms of modern government", the paper says. "Millions of dollars have been allocated from small national budgets to support chronically loss-making public enterprises. This has drained resources away from funding basic services."

Australia's plans for the Pacific have been aided by the election of former diplomat Greg Urwin as secretary-general of the forum on Saturday, in the face of stiff regional resistance.

Mr Howard put his credibility on the line to secure Mr Urwin's win, telling a private meeting of Pacific leaders he would be "wounded" if they decided an Australian should not lead the regional body.

Is Bush getting apocalyptic advice ?

Aug. 13 — Is the Bush administration turning to a televangelist doomsayer for political predictions? Apocalyptic preacher Jack Van Impe is claiming that he was contacted by Condoleezza Rice’s office and the White House Office of Public Liaison for an “outline” of his take on world events.

VAN IMPE is the author of such books as “Israel’s Final Holocaust” and “The Great Escape: Preparing for the Rapture, the Next Event on God’s Prophetic Clock.”
He has predicted that the end of the world will strike somewhere between 2003 and 2012 and one reviewer has called his TV preaching show with wife Rexella “a fantastically loopy apocalyptic take on the week’s news.”
The issue of the alleged involvement with the Bush administration came up on his Web site when someone asked Van Impe, “Do you think that President Bush, apparently a Christian man, believes and knows he is involved in prophetic events concerning the Middle East and final battle between good and evil?”
“I believe he is a wonderful man,” Van Impe responded, and goes on to say, “I was contacted a few weeks ago by the Office of Public Liaison for the White House and by the National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice to make an outline. And I’ve spent hours preparing it. I will release this information to the public in September, but it’s in his hands. He will know exactly what is going to happen in the Middle East and what part he will have under the leading of the Holy Spirit of God. So, it’s a tremendous time to be alive.”
“My investigation into it is that there’s no truth to it,” National Security Council spokesman Sean McCormack told The Scoop, “but I’m continuing to look into it.”3
