    Nevidime dnes nic, co chce byt vetsi, tusime, ze stale jeste pokracuje pokles,
    pokles smerem ke svemu ridsimu, dobrotivejsimu, chytrejsimu, pohodlnejsimu,
    prumernejsimu, lhostejnejsimu, cinstejsimu, krestanstejsimu - clovek, neni o
    tom pochyb, je cim dal "lepsi"... A prave v tom spociva neblahy osud Evropy -
    spolu se strachem z cloveka jsme prisli o lasku k nemu, o uctu pred nim, o
    nadeji v nej, ba o vuli k nemu. Pohled na cloveka uz jen unavuje - co je dnes
    nihilismus, ne-li prave tohle? ... Jsme znaveni clovekem...

    Co znamena to nahle probuzeni - v tomhle temnem pokoji - se zvuky mesta, ktere
    je znenadani cizi? A vsechno je mi cizi, vsechno, neni bytosti, ktera by mi
    patrila, neni mista, kde by se zacelila tato rana. Co tady delam, jaky smysl
    maji ta gesta, ty usmevy? Nejsem odtud - a odjinud taky ne. A svet uz je jenom
    neznama krajina v niz se me srdce nema oc oprit.

    Uvazme konecne jeste, jaka to vubec naivnost, rikati "takovy a takovy mel by
    byti clovek". Skutecnost ukazuje nam rozkosne bohatsvi typu, hojnost
    marnotratne hry a promeny forem: a nejaky ubohy ocumujici moralista pravi k
    tomu: "Ne! Clovek mel by byti jiny" ?.. Vi vubec tento ubozak a svatousek,
