Top U.S. oil producer Exxon Mobil on Monday said it would write down the value of $17 billion to $20 billion in natural gas properties, its biggest-ever impairment, and slash spending next year to its lowest level in 15 years.
The oil major is reeling from the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on energy demand and prices, and is trying to protect a rich shareholder payout that is yielding 8.6% and costs nearly $15 billion a year.

2019 Degrowth dynamics: Modelling policy proposals with system dynamics
    https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/17477778.2019.1646108

This paper builds on well-established ideas of the degrowth community and explores policy proposals from a system dynamics perspective. To better understand the underlying causal structure, it was necessary to go beyond the information available in the literature. Experts in the field of degrowth were contacted by means of an online questionnaire and the information collected was analysed and used to develop a simulation model which we employed to study potential impacts of implementing degrowth policies in developed countries. Simulation results confirm many of the experts’ predictions but also point to some unexpected consequences which would need to be addressed if these policies are to be seriously considered in the future.

update climate actiontrackeru po Xiove vyhlaseni net zero ciny 2060

    Climate goals ‘within striking distance’
Net-zero pledges from China, Japan and South Korea and the election of US-president-elect Joe Biden have shifted the needle closer to achieving the targets set by the Paris climate agreement. Climate researchers say the world is on track to keep global warming below 2.1 ℃ compared with pre-industrial levels by the end of the century, and the more ambitious 1.5 ℃ target is “within striking distance”. “We now have north of 50% of global emissions covered by big countries with a zero emissions by mid-century goal,” says climate scientist Bill Hare, who helped to lead the analysis. “When you add all that up, along with what a whole bunch of other countries are doing, then you move the temperature dial from around 2.7 ℃ to really quite close to two degrees.” There are significant caveats: this is the optimistic scenario, which would require countries to back up their bold long-term commitments with the short-term actions to make them happen.

‎The RegenNarration: 75. Regenerating Civilisation: Allan Savory on holistic management, scaling & a sense of survival on Apple Podcasts
    https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-regennarration/id1236423380?i=1000500922110

Haul back through the spread of regenerative agriculture in recent decades, and Allan Savory is there. His global influence is hard to overstate. Here we chat about his extraordinary life, and the evolution of his insights that have proved so transformative for so many. Thinking holistically is one thing. But how do we actually manage our lives and societies holistically? And ultimately, how do we engage the institutions that we’ve come to so distrust, to enable regeneration at scale - in whatever our role or walk of life? Far from just in agriculture, but certainly not without it. Allan believes it’s possible, and proposes how it might be done.

RADIQAL: Johnson’s government is what warlord money buys. It could be seen as the perfect expression of the Pollution Paradox, a concept that I think is essential to understanding our politics. What this means is that the dirtier or more damaging an enterprise is, the more money it must spend on politics to ensure it’s not regulated out of existence. As a result, political funding comes to be dominated by the most harmful companies and oligarchs, which then wield the greatest political influence. They crowd out their more accommodating rivals.

It isn’t just about pollution. Damaging enterprises with an interest in buying political results include banks developing exotic financial instruments; property developers who resent the planning laws; junk food companies; bosses seeking to destroy employment rights; and plutocrats hoping to avoid tax. It’s why we’ll never have a healthy democracy without a radical reform of campaign finance.

Do roku 2025 uhlíková neutralita.

Humanity is waging war on nature, says UN secretary general | Environment | The Guardian
    https://www.theguardian.com/...ty-is-waging-war-on-nature-says-un-secretary-general-antonio-guterres
“Humanity is waging war on nature. This is suicidal. Nature always strikes back – and it is already doing so with growing force and fury. Biodiversity is collapsing. One million species are at risk of extinction. Ecosystems are disappearing before our eyes … Human activities are at the root of our descent toward chaos. But that means human action can help to solve it.”
“Making peace with nature is the defining task of the 21st century,” he said, in a virtual address entitled The State of the Planet, at Columbia University in New York. “It must be the top, top priority for everyone, everywhere.”
