I’ve read that Civivi’s Damascus composition has some kind of 9Cr18MoV core along with the claim that it performs like 440C steel. Since I don’t see much evidence in the pattern that they use more than two steels, I’m gonna make a semi-educated guess that the other steel is 15N20 or something similarly high in nickel.+

They’ve said in videos before that it’s 9cr layered with 10cr. It’s good in my experience, but it’s definitely something you buy primarily for the aesthetic.

Yes civivi is using powder formed 9cr Damascus. It is legit Damascus just done in a different way (they are using a Damasteel like procedure to make it as its not folded forged but rather a powder forming process just done with 9cr18mov as the base steel) The nice thing about powder formed Damascus is that you will never run in to delamination issues like you can with folded forged Damascus. Your going to get edge retention performance equivalent to well done 9cr because that's exactly what it is.
I have sharpened lots and lots of it for customers and it's consistently done well and I have cut tested it multiple times and it comes in exactly where well done 440c scores in the cut tests. If you have experience with Sencut or Civivi 9cr18mov that is exactly how it will perform. I will say the grain structure on the Damascus is a little finer then on their normal 9cr and comes up with a slightly finer edge and that's just a result of the powdering process of the steel.
Overall if your going to buy budget Damascus you can't go wrong with civivi as they are putting out a good performing product.
