Čína je rozhodnuta trumfovat Ameriku v militarizaci kosmu

    (23.5.05)

    Japan: Big Brother tracks staff

    London Times | May 23 2005

A JAPANESE security company has begun offering corporate customers the ultimate Big Brother service: a system that tracks employees both inside and outside the office, knows every door you have passed through, every drawer you have opened and can tell every piece of paper you have touched.

The sinister new “Protect 24” service from Secom is aimed at plugging potential data leaks by letting employees know that they are under surveillance throughout the day.

    ...

The service means that each employee will be kitted out with a tracking card. Sensors on doors and other office furniture will detect where the worker is and keep a computer log. When staff are outside the building and carrying sensitive documents, employers can insist that they carry a small satellite tracking chip. For clients of the premium service, individual paper documents, CDs and DVDs can be tagged with wafer-thin chips that can detect who has handled them.

Yuji Mesaki, the Secom executive in charge of Protect 24, believes that the service will be of huge interest to Secom’s existing clients, and expects more than 1,000 to sign up within the year. The service will be offered in the UK, where it is expected to be in demand in the financial industry, as in Japan.

    A Nation Damned
    We are a nation damned.

There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. We are past being able to pretend otherwise, no matter what comfort might be found in the deception. The United States Government has openly admitted there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The United States Government has openly admitted there was no connection between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda. The United States Government has openly admitted there was no connection between Saddam Hussein and 9-11. The United States has invaded and conquered a foreign nation under false pretexts. President Bush and his cronies lied us all into a war.

But that is not why we are damned.

The culmination of decades of accumulated overspending by the government has created an aggregate debt for the United States federal and state governments of $14 trillion dollars. That’s fourteen million million dollars. Or, to put it in a more personal scale, more than $48,000 for every single living human being in the United States, plus the accumulating interest.

The interest on that government debt now exceeds all the personal income tax collected by that government. That means that the government isn’t keeping up with the interest on the debt, let alone able to pay down the principle. Even before the wars started with lies, the US Government was sinking deeper into debt by one third of a trillion dollars every year. With Bush’s war, the debt is increasing at another half trillion every year just at the Federal level. And because the federal Government, struggling with payments on past debts, is sending less money back to the states, the states are sinking deeper into debt as well.

But that is not why we are damned.

The national fiscal crisis is accelerating because of soaring unemployment, and the forced migration of workers from higher paying jobs to lower paying ones. This is occurring for two reasons. The first is that as tax revenues falter, the cash-strapped government raises tax rates. This increases the cost of products and services inside the United States without increasing their quality or desirability. Indeed American companies, struggling to keep prices competitive, are forced to sacrifice quality.

As an inevitable result, American companies have either been driven out of business by foreign competition able to sell superior products at lower prices, or been forced to outsource their own operations to regions with lower tax burdens.

The US Government attempted to conceal this loss of manufacturing with the so-called “Service Economy”, the ludicrous notion that one can prosper a nation by doing each other’s laundry for a fee. But while the moving of cash back and forth for services created more opportunities for taxation, fewer and fewer products were being made within the United States for sales to foreign countries. All the while, Americans were buying foreign-made products because they were of better quality and lower price than American products. Indeed many products needed for every day life are simply not made in the USA any more. When Ampex invented the VCR, they did not even bother approaching American manufacturers but licensed directly to the Japanese. When Seymour Cray was building his supercomputers, the chips he needed were only available from Japanese manufacturers.

Money is flowing out of the country at a billion and a half dollars per day. And as government debt drives taxes higher, the situation can only get worse.

But that is not why we are damned.

Despite the huge government debt, despite the loss of manufacturing over the last 30 years, despite soaring unemployment, despite American women and children sleeping in alleys and eating out of trash cans, the United States government hands out trillions of dollars as gifts to their friends (who used to be their enemies) and to make war on their enemies (who used to be their friends).

But that is not why we are damned.

Maybe the problem is the Congress. Congress is supposed to represent the people, but a body composed of millionaires and lawyers can hardly be expected to understand how to actually make things work. Maybe Congress would better serve the people if it were made up of teachers, doctors, road engineers, factory workers, bakers, people who actually know how to make a nation function, build an infrastructure, and know what it is like to have to live paycheck to paycheck in a nation where the government makes more money off of your work than you do and is always asking for more.

But that is not why we are damned.

We are damned because we know all the above and do nothing. Like the Germans of 1930s Germany we see Der Fuhrer trying to distract the populace from the self-serving choices the government makes by creating a war with lies and deceptions, yet stay silent, less we be accused of being traitors to the national security. We voice our outrage when a rock star bares her breast at a sporting event, because rock stars cannot after all hurt us, raise our taxes, or conscript our children to be crippled or killed in wars. But we remain silent, or at best speak in hushed tones with a trusted few of our concerns about the government, which does hurt us, which does raise our taxes, and which has and continues to conscript our children to be crippled or killed in wars.

We are damned by our silence. We are damned by our inaction. We are damned by our fear to speak out. We are damned by our weakness. We are damned by being sheep under a government of wolves.

We are damned unless and until you realize that your anger and outrage must be targeted where it is needed, not just where it is harmless. We are damned by our willingness to be angry with those who cannot affect our lives, while remaining too afraid to be angry with those who can. We are damned because individuals who refuse to obey the law morally offend us, but we remain enablers of a government that refuses to obey the Constitution. We are damned until WE THE PEOPLE remember that we ARE a people, and that this nation is US.

The President is not the nation. The media is not the nation. The selfish desires of a powerful few are not the nation. The Congress is not the nation.

This nation is 288 million teachers, doctors, bricklayers, road layers, bridging engineers, railroad workers, bakers, grocers, and thousands of others who actually make the nation work. But we seem to have forgotten that simple truth, that wisdom conveyed in those first three words to the Preamble to the Constitution, “We The People”.

The Constitution makes it clear that the nation is the people, and the government only a temporary custodian of our national sovereignty that rules by and only by the leave of the people.

We are damned because we have forgotten that the government is the employee of the people, and that like any employee the government is required to obey orders, not to give them.

We are damned because we have forgotten that as the employers of the government, we have the right to decide what our employees can do and more importantly, what they cannot.

We are damned because we have forgotten who is really supposed to be in charge.

Yet another instance of an American 'terrorist act' in Iraq

"On Friday [May 13, 2005], a 64 years old Iraqi farmer, Haj Haidar Abu Sijjad, took his tomato load in his pickup truck from Hilla to Baghdad, accompanied by Ali, his 11 years old grandson. They were stopped at an American check point and were asked to dismount. An American soldier climbed on the back of the pickup truck, followed by another a few minutes later, and thoroughly inspected the tomato filled plastic containers for about 10 minutes. Haj Haidar and his grandson were then allowed to proceed to Baghdad.
A minute later, his grandson told him that he saw one of the American soldiers putting a grey melon size object in the back among the tomato containers. The Haj immediately slammed on the brakes and stopped the car at the side of the road, at a relatively far distance from the check point. He found a time bomb with the clock ticking tucked among his tomatoes. He immediately recognized it, as he was an ex-army soldier. Panicking, he grabbed his grandson and ran away from the car. Then, realizing that the car was his only means of work, he went back, took the bomb and carried it in fear. He threw it in a deep ditch by the side of the road that was dug by Iraqi soldiers in preparation for the war, two years ago.
Upon returning from Baghdad, he found out that the bomb had indeed exploded, killing three sheep and injuring their sheppard in his head. He thanked God for giving him the courage to go back and remove the bomb, and for the luck in that the American soldiers did not notice his sudden stop at a distance and his getting rid of the bomb.
"They intended it to explode in Baghdad and claim that it is the work of the 'terrorists', or 'insurgents' or who call themselves the 'Resistance'.
I decided to expose them and asked your (Mufakirat al-Islam - Islam Memo) reporter to take me to Baghdad to tell you the story.
They are to be exposed as they now want to sow strife in Iraq and taint the Resistance after failing to defeat it militarily.
Do not forget to mention my name. I fear nobody but God, as I am a follower of Muqtada al-Sadir."

    BEEJBI
    BEEJBI --- ---
regulacie nie su dobre, na druhej strane prilis malo kontrolovany trh, resp. velka liberalizacia zase dava vacsiu moc do ruk korporaciam...je to bludny kruh, imho nieco regulovat treba a nieco nie, vystihnut spravnu mieru je ale skoro nemozne
    JDEE
    JDEE --- ---

There is a new danger coming to your bathroom: John Prescott is getting into the plumbing.

Under plans to be decided in detail with industry leaders this week, the Government is preparing to control the maximum temperature of Britain's baths.

Regulations will require that devices limiting the temperature of water available from bath taps be fitted in all new homes. The law, which the Government says is "essential" to prevent scalding, is expected to take effect in 2006.

The measures brought criticism from both the Conservatives, who spoke of "nanny state interference", and plumbers, who called the plan "bathwatergate".

    Topit obilím?
    (19.5.05)

Pamatuji si, jak někdy v sedmé třídě základní školy nám učitel vyprávěl o kapitalistech, kteří polévají úrodu pomerančů naftou a pálí ji, aby nemuseli snížit ceny.

    'Superpower behind' Burma blasts

The government says the terrorists and explosive came from abroad

Burma's government says rebels trained abroad by a "superpower" were behind last week's bombings at three shopping centres in the capital, Rangoon.

Nineteen people are known to have died in the blasts, with 69 injured.

The explosives used were not available in the country, and the plot was funded by a "world famous organisation", the military government said.

The junta said it believes the attacks were led by the Thailand-based All Burma Students Democratic Front.

"It is crystal clear that the terrorists... and the time bombs originated from training conducted with foreign experts at a place in a neighbouring country by a world famous organisation of a certain superpower nation," Information Minister Kyaw Hsan told reporters.

He also accused the unnamed organisation - based in Washington - of having given $100,000 (£54,000) to a dissident group led by a cousin of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

The group then sent a group of saboteurs to Burma to carry out the attacks
, helped by ethnic Shan, Karen and Karenni rebels, the minister added.

The three minority ethnic groups have denied any involvement.

Even though the minister refused to name the suspected country and organisation, correspondents believe he was referring to the United States and the CIA.

The bombs went off at two supermarkets and at a conference centre in Rangoon on 7 May.

The Thai-based National Coalition Government of the Union of Burma, which has led a government in exile since 1990, has alleged the government might have had the bombs planted to blame the opposition.

Neuromarketing: Peeking Inside the Black Box

    by Karl Moore

The field of marketing research marches onward year after year, with new techniques and new approaches.
For example, I remember when "garbology" first came out. Many found much amusement in the idea of rooting through someone's garbage to better understand their consumption patterns. Today, it is much more accepted, though still assigned to more junior market researchers.

A type of marketing research that has recently garnered considerable attention is "neuromarketing." What set off this interest was a study published in the October 14, 2004 issue of Neuron. Researchers monitored brain scans of 67 people who were given a blind taste test of Coca-Cola and Pepsi. Using brain scanners, they could see that each soft drink "lit up" the brain's reward system.

Participants were evenly split about which drink they preferred. However, when the same people were told what they were drinking, activity in a different set of brain regions were engaged. Three out of four said they preferred Coca-Cola. This demonstrated in a fairly dramatic way that brand matters.

For as long has I have been a student of marketing, we have regarded the human mind as a "black box," something which was rather mysterious. We marketers do our thing: beaming advertising, direct marketing pieces, a sales pitch or what have you to our target market.

We can measure the results of that marketing effort, in terms of sales, awareness, liking and so on. We understand reasonably well the beginning and end of the process—but not the vital part in the middle. That is, what goes on inside the mind of the consumer.

This is what is changing with neuromarketing. First, let me take a run at defining it.

The basic fundamental science underlying neuromarketing is neuroscience, which is the study of the how the brain gives rise to the mind. In other words, neuroscience is how the brain enables us to perceive, think, make decisions, feel emotions, communicate (i.e., the neural basis of human experience).

Techniques used by neuroscience are psychophysics (reaction times/detection levels), functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), magnetoencephalography (MEG) and electroencephalography (EEG). The most interesting of these to neuromarketing is fMRI scanning. I am sure we all have seen these on ER or other television shows, where the patient is slid inside a machine that hums and makes various other noises.

Neuromarketing is the application of the techniques of neuroscience to marketing stimuli—in layman's terms, to see how the brain "lights up" when exposed to our marketing efforts.

Science has made a great deal of progress in understanding our brains. Many called the '90s the "decade of the brain," and in the last 20 years there have been more than 100,000 scientific publications on this most complex of organs.

It is early days for neuroscience. But what research has been done has stirred up a considerable amount of interest in the idea of neuromarketing. It is being touted by some as the next big thing. If marketers can use science to locate consumers' "buy buttons," then we have gotten closer to opening the "black box" of the consumer's mind.

The best use of neuromarketing is in predicting behavior
—spotting the advertisements that people remember, selecting the media format that works best and how what consumers actually do differs from what they tell focus groups. Other uses I have seen or read about include reactions to movie trailers, choices about automobiles, the appeal of a pretty face and visceral reactions to political campaign advertising.

Neuromarketing has critics. I share some of their fears. Neuromarketing raises the possibility of a too-useful tool for Big Brother, for example. Other concerns include the costs and the unpleasantness of a scan.

Dr. Gemma Calvert, cofounder of Neurosense Ltd., a neuromarketing consultancy, noted in a recent issue of the London Times: "MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is not as expensive as people think and is only slightly more expensive than the average cost of conducting focus groups...and OK, it is not pleasant, but it isn't unpleasant either. We have never had a problem getting people into scanners; most have read about brain imaging and are really keen to have a go."

At this point, brain scanning is being used as an adjunct to traditional market research techniques, including focus groups. In the future, perhaps 5-10 years off at this point, I think brain scanning may well become a routine part of corporate marketing strategies.

    Americká armáda čelí dezercím

Seržant Kevin Benderman nemůže ten obraz ze své hlavy dostat: Vybombardované vesnice a zoufalí lidé. Psi ohlodávají těla vržená do masových hrobů.
