Democracy produces history, and is produced by it. If we have a sense that time flows forward from a past filled with events through a present filled with a possibility to a future defined in part by our choices, democracy is possible. This is why enemies of democracy seek to kill both the past and the future, and keep us trapped in a relentless present. Democracy involves us in a succession principle, reminding us that both continuity (of the state) and change (of its rulers) is possible. This is why enemies of democracy feed us a mythical past in which we were always innocent, and instruct us not to worry about what comes next.

One day, an old professor met a young man who asked him, “Do you remember me?” The old man said he did not. Therefore, the man told him that he had once been his disciple. The professor asked him, “Ah, yes? And what do you do now?” The young man replied, “I am a teacher.” “Oh, how wonderful, just like me,” replied the old man. “Yes. Otherwise, that would have been the most embarrassing day of my life. Thereafter, you never mentioned anything to me about the theft. Although you did not yell at me or give me a moral lesson, I learned the lesson, nonetheless. Thanks to you, I realized that was how a real educator should act. Can you recall that event, professor?”

The professor replied: “I remember the case of the stolen watch very well and that I searched the pockets of all the students, but I do not remember that it was you, nor could I have known. Because, you see, as I was searching your pockets, I kept my eyes closed too.”

K téhle debatě se může hodit názor člověka, který se nechal "vykořisťovat" celý život a přece za to dostal odměnu, o které lecjaký CEO ani neví, že existuje. Pokud někoho triggeruje ten Ježíš, tak si může dosadit Buddhu nebo Aštara Šarana na jednorožci. To je celkem fuk, jak si představíme to, co nás přesahuje.

ARCHDRONE: Tohle nijak nerozporuju, ale já reaguju přímo na ten původní tweet, čili mluvím o osobní rovině, osobní volbě ve vztahu jedinec – jeho práce. Kdežto ty tam pořád sázíš aspekt toho, kdo tu práci poskytuje a za jakejch podmínek. Ne že by to nesouviselo vůbec nijak, ale přesto to vidím malinko jako jablka s hruškama.

Ten tweet není o tom, že tě někdo vykořisťuje. Ten tweet je o tom, že makáš jak blb, jako správný kolečko v systému, a nejen že si to neuvědomuješ, ale ještě jsi na to ve svý nevědomosti hrdej.

JAMILLOS: S tim nesouhlasim. Neni to zcela jeho vec. Jsou jista prava a svobody, na kterych jsme se jako spolecnost shodli (alespon papirove, dle Listiny zakladnich prav a svobod), ze jsou nezcizitelna a nezadatelna. I kdyby ses vedome a dobrovolne prodal do otroctvi napriklad podpisem nejake smlouvy, takova smlouva bude neplatna. V opacnem pripade by to vytvarelo nebezpecny precedens, kdy by se pak dalo z pozice sily relativizovat, ze se vlastne kazdy do otroctvi dostal dobrovolne.

Ostatne v historii je mnoho pripadu, kdy se vyuzivala nejaka "moralni" ideologie k alibistickemu obhajeni stavu veci, ktery vyhovoval prave tem, kteri takovou ideologii hlasali.

Napriklad, ze chudy clovek je chudy, protoze zrejme hresil pred bohem, a proto si zaslouzi byt chudy. Naopak bohatemu cloveku bylo dano, protoze ho ma buh rad, protoze buh ma prece rad lidi, kteri jsou dobri.

A uplne podobne koncept predestinace zneuzivali otrokari nebo ti, kdoz pachali ruzne genocidy.
