"The image shows how much Rivian has reduced the number of controllers from its GEN1 to GEN2 architecture: it went from 17 to 7 controllers. The image only shows 5 because the other 2 are pretty small. By doing so, the company has also completely eliminated physical fuses. All in all, a major step forward.
Rivian’s architecture has moved from domain to zonal for greater wire harness simplification, but that’s not per se groundbreaking when compared with the best Tesla or some Chinese OEMs have already put on the market.
However, the interesting thing is that practically all non-Chinese legacy OEMs are still to reach the level of Rivian’s GEN1 architecture. This speaks volumes on how much these companies need to catch up on H/W and consequently S/W.
The good news is that a significant number of legacy OEMs will present their own centralized HPC architecture (not the one they bought from Chinese OEMs) between 2025 and 2027. This could eventually help them close the gap to the front runners but time will tell how much ground will they manage to recover."
Za sebe podotýkám - loni koncern Stellantis s velkou slábou oznámil, že redukoval počet řídících jednotek u nové platformy na 100.
