This is How Nonviolence Works: Freedom Riders and Insulate Britain with Rowan Tilly and Roger Hallamhttps://youtu.be/MYs-J0mFV0ERoger Hallam and Rowan Tilly discuss the Freedom Riders and their 1961 non-violent campaign to end racial inequality in the United States.
“We need to move rapidly. What we do in the next 2-3 years, I believe, will determine the future of humanity.” - Sir David King, Former UK Chief Scientific Advisor, 2021.
In 2021 we face the intolerable situation of a UK government which has no serious intention of saving our families, communities or this country from the dire threat of social collapse due to climate and ecological breakdown. Facts are facts.
Insulate Britain is a single standing nonviolence campaign involving people from XR and other networks who are coming to make a clear a no-brainer demand: to get on with the job of decarbonisation by insulating all public housing in the UK. If this demand is not substantially responded to, then a campaign of escalating civil disobedience will be undertaken this autumn.
The campaign is inspired by the 1961 Freedom Riders. To do whatever is non-violently necessary to confront an intolerable injustice. We have no time for anything less.
